PROVO, Utah — BYU will raise tuition by 4.1 percent, or $60, in 2001-2002, bringing the undergraduate rate per semester to $1,530.
Administrative Vice President Brad Farnsworth said the increase is necessary to keep pace with the continually rising costs of operating the university. Next year's tuition for graduate students will increase from $1,730 to $1,930 per semester, a change of 11.6 percent. Law School and Graduate School of Management students will pay $3,070, an increase of $300 or 10.8 percent.
"A larger-than-normal increase was approved to help enhance the curriculum of our graduate programs, particularly for technological support," said Brother Farnsworth. "By setting new benchmarks and expanding technological resources, BYU's graduate programs can become even stronger."
The university will also raise undergraduate tuition for spring and summer terms, increasing the rate from $735 to $765. Spring/summer 2002 rates for graduate students will be $965.
As in the past, students who are not members of the Church will pay one-and-a-half times the listed rates.
