Tony Hawk's Pro Skater is one of the most beloved skateboarding video game franchises, with releases dating back to the original PlayStation. Despite no mainline releases since 2015's Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5, Activision has shown a keen interest in keeping this beloved franchise alive.

In 2020, developer Vicarious Visions released a faithful remake of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2 on modern consoles. Fans have wondered whether a Pro Skater 3+4 remake is on the horizon or not.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 Remake Not in Development?

Unfortunately, a remake of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 is currently not in development. The bitter news came directly from the Skateboarding legend Tony Hawk during a live stream with Andy Gentile, senior designer on THPS 1+2.

According to Hawk, the plans for a Pro Skater 3+4 remake were abandoned after Activision merged Vicarious Visions with Blizzard.
"I mean that was the plan, you know, even up until the release date of [THPS1+2] we were going 3+4, and then Vicarious got kind of absorbed, and they were looking for other developers, and then it was over," Hawk said.

As it seems, Activision was taking pitches from third-party studios for future Pro Skater projects, but none of them came to fruition.

“The truth of it is that [Activision] were trying to find somebody to do 3 + 4 but they just didn’t really trust anyone the way they did Vicarious, so they took other pitches from other studios,” said Hawk. “Like, ‘What would you do with the THPS title?’ And they didn’t like anything they heard, and then that was it," Hawk added.

Will there be a Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 remake in the future?

While there's no official confirmation as of this writing, Hawk remains hopeful for a Pro Skater 3+4 remake in the future.
“I wish there was some way to bring it back. I mean, who knows? Maybe when all the dust settles, we’ll figure it out. You never know. I would never have imagined we were going to do 1 + 2 20 years later.”

Microsoft is currently looking to acquire Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion. The company is known to give its studios freedom to pursue various creative projects, whether big or small, and Obsidian Entertainment is a stark example of this.

If Microsoft's Activision Blizzard deal is successful, the former could greenlight a new entry in the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater franchise or a remake of THPS 3+4.

That's everything you need to know about Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4 remake.
