Every August car fans from around the world hang out on the Monterey Peninsula for Monterey Car Week, “the” ultimate automotive event. With the Pebble Beach Concours and Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion as well as dozens of other events, there really is no other automotive show like it.

One of our favorite shows is the The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. Held at the idyllic Quail Lodge (a golf course nestled against the Santa Lucia mountain range) in the Carmel Valley, the annual The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering, is one of the more exclusive events during the Monterey Car Week. A collection of vintage sporting cars and today’s cream-of-the-crop luxury cars are assembled to be sampled by guests on local roads.

This event is held Friday of Monterey Car Week and is limited to 3,000 tickets priced at $600 each. This event is designed for the very rich (and for those who want to market to them). Unlike the Pebble Beach Concours, The Quail vehicles are not judged. The event is unique for its superb selection of gourmet food and fine wines as well as the collection of high-end new metal often launched by auto-manufacturers targeting those with big bank balances.

Nowhere else can spectators and participants admire some of the world’s best automobiles while enjoying culinary delights like caviar, oysters and champagne.

The voting procedure at ‘The Quail’ is quite unlike any other concours d’elegance as not an independent jury or the spectators picked the winners but the participants themselves. They voted for both the best car in their own class as well as the ‘Best of Show’ winner.

The Quail Rally

Launched in 1997, The Quail Rally is an invitation only three‐day drive preceding The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. It is part of the awesome Monterey Car Week and is one of our favorite events of the week (along with the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion).

With 30 vintage cars from different car collectors, it is a drive that gives people the opportunity to discover the back roads and spectacular scenery of Monterey County and its Pacific Ocean coastline. The drive raises money for local and national charitable organisations.
